What a stupid ordinance by the San Diego Police Department. I'm failing to see how this benefits anyone. First of all, the homeless shelters I've seen in San Diego are pretty low quality and are overflowing. There are many homeless people sleeping in the streets facing their hard reality than those living in these shelters. I don't think many would turn down a free spot in one of these places. If one of these people are cited, what's to happen next? They can't afford to pay for the consequences. Putting them in jail will just overflow and eventually will benefit nobody.
These homeless people just need help. Everyone fears them, but why? Most of them are war veterans who put their lives on the line for our country, and look how they are being treated now. Others have mental issues that they could not control. These people don't choose to be homeless. It's amazing how ungreatful most of us are in this country. Think about it; when's the last time you heard about a homeless person committing armed robberies or murders? Seems that the big crime they now will commit will be just trying to find a place on the street to get a good night's rest.
